Tip For April 1999: Book in a Bag
Promote literacy and reading in your children with the book in a bag program
Collect some of the favorite stories of your day care children and find some simple story props to go along with them. Some examples are below. You might want to have some nice canvas bag's made up with your day care business name on them for this tip. Hang a tag on the bags strap with the book's title and prop contents. Also, you may want to add some tips for the parents on acting out the story with their children. I also made up some bookmarks on my computer as hand outs for the parents and the kids. This has been a big hit with both parents and kids. A child may take one of the bags home for a couple of days, then return it and select a different story. I change the stories every couple of weeks.

Hint: If you are using the Scholastic Book Club, some of these story props can be gotten for free with the bonus points. If you want to sign your day care up with Scholastic, call them at 1-800-Scholastic.
