Knitted Cotton Tote by Gina B. Ahrens

Materials:
Peaches and Cream worsted weight cotton, a one pound cone makes two bags

Keyplate:
Dot 4

Gauge:
14st x 20r = 4 inches

Instructions:

Body of Bag:
Cast on 110 needles with waste yarn…..K 6 r………Switch to MC …….Leaving a two to three foot length at the start, K 80 r …….Cast off onto 6 rows of WY…….Rehang onto 100 needles….Double up extra stitches evenly over knitting……..K 1 R……Mark every third stitch with waste yarn……Knit 10 more rows…..Drop and latch up stitches marked with WY……Cut a length of yarn two to three times the width of the knitting and back stitch bind off……

Handles:
Cast on 15 needles with WY…K 6 r……Switch to MC…..Leaving a two foot length at the start, K 75 r……Leaving a two foo length at the end, cast off onto 6 r WY….Repeat for second handle…..

Finishing:
On Body of Bag, graft live stitches together and then pull yarn to gather bottom of bag slightly…..Sew up side seam……Sew live stitches at the end of the handles to the bottom of the ribbing with the knit side of the handle facing out…..Then also sew the handle to the top edge of the bag…..The handle should be stitched down in two places when done….Let the edges curl as they will……Wash the bag in warm water and tumble dry until almost done ……..Then dry the rest of the way flat…..Your bag is done…Enjoy!
