Mile-A-Minute Baby Hats by Gina B. Ahrens

Materials:
Any keyplate 3 or worsted weight yarn

Size:
Finished hats measure about 14 to 15 inches around and 6 to 7 inches long not including the Pompom

Keyplate:
Dot 3

Directions:
Cast on 60 stitches with and e-wrap or other closed edge cast on.....Knit 40 rows....*Cut making sure to leave a two foot length....Switch to waste yarn and knit 5 or 6 rows, cut yarn.......Switch to different waste yarn and knit 1 row, cut yarn.....Get next color of main yarn and start on next hat.....push all needles to holding position......E-wrap, or other closed edge cast on, all needles.....Make sure cast on's are behind all latches....Push needles back to forward working position....Make sure all latches are open....Knit 1 row......Knit 39 more rows*...repeat from * to *.....When hem hits the floor but you want to keep going you can either roll it up and attach to knitting with long knitting needles or remove it and rehang when you e-wrap cast-on for a new hat....

For Preemie Hats:
About how big around would you want the hat to be?....8-10 inches?....For the regular baby hat(above) I cast on 60 stitches.....Those came out to 14-15 inches around.....cast on about 40 stitches for a 10 inch round hat and knit 30 rows?.....I am guessing....

Finishing:
After you have knitted all your hats remove from machine….Remove hem….Pull out single row of waste yarn…..This will separate your long hat row into individual hats……Use two foot length left at end of main yarn to gather all stitches on waste yarn and sew back seam….Remove waste yarn…..Add a pom-pom to the top and you are done…..
