Materials:
1 Skein Red Heart Super Saver in Vibrant Orange
1 Skein Red Heart Super Saver in Green
Fiber Fill or yarn scraps
Felt
Velcro

Gauge:
16 sts x 24 rows = 4 inches

Keyplate:
dot 3

 

Instructions:
Cast on 98 sts with WY....K 6 rows....Change row counter to 0 and switch to orange yarn and leaving a 2 foot length at the beginning K1 row......Starting and the 7th stitch in from the right side, remove every 6th stitch to WY.....K to row 71 ....Do a shaker style rib with the stitches on WY by latching them up using every 5th rung....You may need to hang an extra claw weight on the knitting to hold it down while you latch up....Cast off onto WY leaving a 2 foot length to sew up pumpkin later.......Gather all stitches that are on WY with the long tails left at the beginning and end.....Pull tight and sew seam.....Sew side seam, but before closing stuff with fiber fill or yarn scraps....Finish sewing pumpkin body....Make a stem by casting on 7 stitches with WY and using small hem or large claw weight...K 6 rows....Switch to green yarn and K 20 rows......Cast off onto 6 rows WY....Make sure to leave long tails at both the beginning and end of the stem piece......Run the long tail at the beginning through the live stitches on WY and remove WY....Gather these live stitches and roll the piece lengthwise to form the stem....Sew the rolls together and gather the live stitches at the other end with the long tail at that end......Knot the two tails together and sew to the top of the pumpkin....You can knit leaves or cut them from felt.....Attach leaves to the top of the pumpkin around the stem....For Halloween cut a face out of felt and back with the stiff side of Velcro....This should stick to the pumpkin well....You can remove the face after Halloween to continue displaying your pumpkin for Thanksgiving.....Enjoy!

 

Note:

To Knit Leaves:
CO 3 needles with closed edge CO...Use claw weights to weight knitting....K 2 R...Increase 1 stitch on carriage side every row 10x.....K 1 row Straight....Decrease 1 stitch carriage side every row 10x...You should have three stitches left....BO using back stitch....Make three or four leaves ...
