There are three different ways to make a wind sock with your kids using the
above materials.
- First, take an old pair of jeans and cut off the legs at or just above the knees. Using the hem of your pant leg as the top of your sock, cut the bottom into one inch strips. Be sure to leave about 5-6 inches uncut from the hem down. Take some precut flower shapes, from cotton fabric, and some precut foam shapes then let the kids glue it to the top of the wind sock. Cut the center from a plastic container lid and glue the rim only to the inside of the pant leg. Make some holes in the top of the sock with scissors or an awl. Thread some string through the holes and tie them together.
- Sew the two shorter ends of some white cotton rectangles(about 12 inches
long by 22 inches wide) into tubes or cut the long sleeve off of an old men's
dress shirt. Sew a casing into one end and thread some chennille stems through
for the top of the sock. Have the kids glue flower shapes and fabric strips
to the tube. Make some holes in the top and thread the string through. Tie
the string together and hang up.
- Cut the center from a cool whip or other large container lid. Take the rim and using an awl make three or four holes around the rim. Thread some string through and tie together. Let the kids glue or tie two foot lengths of 1/4 inch wide ribbon around the rim. Hang up and enjoy.
